FORSYTH CENTRAL CHORUS

Picture

PURPOSE

Chorus teaches students poise, composure, and the value of continued effort to achieve excellence. As a direct result of making music as a team, students have the opportunity to build and cultivate lasting friendships. Above all, music performance students know the satisfaction of the successful result of hard work, and this carries over into every other aspect of their lives.

PROGRAM GOALS

  • To present students with the opportunity to learn, sing, and perform music in our graded and leveled choir program.
  • To provide students with a creative outlet to support their overall wellbeing and health.
  • To offer a quality musical experience through performance of diverse choral literature.
  • To promote the cultivation of student relationships through teamwork and camaraderie.
  • To offer aspiring students opportunities for leadership.
  • To promote and develop good character in each student—including, but not limited to: self-discipline, creativity, self-esteem, and enthusiasm for learning.
  • To develop an aesthetic appreciation for choral music in students and in the surrounding community.

CHAMBER

CANTAMUS

Chamber is an advanced auditioned group. Students should show a firm grasp of the skills necessary for proper choral singing (sight reading, vocal tone quality, pitch and rhythmic accuracy, ensemble balance and blend, diction, musicality).

Students in Chamber will be expected to perform at:
  • The four traditional concerts throughout the school-year
  • Extra-curricular performances
  • Various sporting, community, and school events.

Students must have choral experience to audition for Chamber.
Cantamus is an intermediate auditioned group for treble voices. Students should have foundational skills necessary for proper choral singing (sight reading, vocal tone quality, pitch and rhythmic accuracy, ensemble balance and blend, diction, musicality).

Students in Cantamus will be expected to perform at:
  • The four traditional concerts throughout the year
  • Extra-curricular performances, as needed
  • Various sporting  community, and school events, as needed

Students must have choral experience to audition for Cantamus.
Auditions are held in the spring during class.

If you are not currently enrolled in chorus but have prior choral experience, email Mrs. Neal to set up an audition time in March.

CAMERATA

Camerata is a non-auditioned choir open to all students, regardless of experience.

Students will be introduced to the skills necessary for choral singing (sight reading, vocal tone quality, pitch and rhythmic accuracy, ensemble balance and blend, diction, musicality), while learning music for and performing at four choir concerts throughout the year. Students are taught everything they need to know to be successful in chorus in this course. This is a great course for theatre students interested in improving their vocal abilities.

COFFEE HOUSE

Coffee House is a chorus run event for all students at Forsyth Central.

Coffee House allows people an opportunity to share their talent with their fellow peers, teachers, parents, and friends during the either the fall or spring events.

It is an amazing opportunity to put yourself out there without any extra pressure. Feel free to reach out to our chorus director, Mrs. Neal, and stay tuned for updates about auditions and performance dates.
